A bus conductor is an official on a bus who collects money from the passengers, issues tickets to them and checks their tickets. He also controls and directs the bus. It is also his duty to look after the comforts of the passengers. He also sees that passengers board the bus and alight from it safely. He wears a prescribed uniform. He sits at the back seat and can be recognised by his whistle, a bundle of tickets or ticketing machine in his hand, a green bag and punching machine.
He interacts with different kinds of passengers. He is always on the alert lest someone should travel without a ticket and snack away without his notice. Passengers are often at daggers drawn with him. Sometimes he loses his temper and orders passengers to get down or board the bus at one. Some bust conductors are very rude even to the fair sex and cut vulgar jokes. But most of them are polite and courteous. The life and duty of the bus conductor is very hard.
His pay is very small. His life is irregular and he hardly enjoys the company of the members of his family. A journey with a polite and humble bus conductor is enjoyable; and dull and boring with a man of rude and impolite temperament.
