General Election take place after every five years in India. It is a time of great suspense and expectations for the general public. Everybody waits eagerly which party or person is coming into power. On the polling day there is perfect calm. All canvassing is strictly prohibited.
The political parties pitch their tents outside the polling station. There is great rush of voters. They form long queues. There is a great enthusiasm among them. There is a lot of excitement and tension. Though canvassing is prohibited. Supporters of various candidates are active in tempting the voter. The voters feel important. This is their day. There is a guard of police and paramilitary forces outside the election booth to maintain law and order.
The election begins at exact 8 am and continues till 5 pm. Then the ballot boxes are sealed before the agents of the different parties and despatched in safe custody of the returning officer. After the, polling, the polling station presents a deserted look.
