In our country, marriages are celebrated on a grand scale with great pomp and show. Last week I attended my cousin’s wedding. 14th September was the wedding day of my cousin. The wedding was held in our native village Bihar. So, I and my family left a week before the wedding ceremony from Delhi. There was an atmosphere of joy and jubilation and everyone was busy and happy. Preparations for the wedding had been going on for several days because there were too many functions. Invitation cards were printed and sent to friends and relatives.
The entire house was decorated with beautiful flowers and lights. And in one corner of the house, the cooks started preparing sweets. For me the best part of the wedding is shopping. Many kinds of gold and silver jewellery were purchased for my sister. My sister bought different clothes for different functions. I also bought clothes for myself. Relatives arrived a day earlier.
Three days before the wedding, the ‘Tilak Ceremony’ was held and then the Mehndi and Haldi ceremony. On the day of the Haldi ceremony, everyone was very emotional especially my uncle and aunty. And finally, the day of “Barat” had come. My sister was looking like a princess in a red lehenga. The Band was playing the tunes of the latest hit songs everyone was dancing to the tunes of the band. A shrine was prepared for the ‘Pheras’. The men members of the family were dressed in pink turbans and women were in beautiful sarees and lehenga. The priest chanted shlokas from the Vedas everyone was happy and emotional at the time of Pheras.
