A bus stand is a place, especially in a town, where (especially long distance) buses depart and arrive. It is a very busy place which presents a varied scene from morning till late in the evening. All sorts and shades of people come to the bus stand to the bus. They move about in a leisurely manner, pushing and nudging and rubbing their shoulders with one another to get into their respective buses. Vendors, toy and newspaper sellers have a roaring business. Passengers and porters and small children speak loudly.
The noise of incoming and outgoing buses makes things more confounded. Passengers anxiously wait for their buses standing in queue in front of the booking window. Some impatient and enthusiastic passengers break the queue and rush to board the bus before other. This leads to quarrel, exchange of hot words and even to blows. Some passengers are seen sipping tea at the tea stalls, some glaring at the newspapers and others looking after their luggage.
Beggars with begging bowls in their hands are seen crying pitiably. Pick-pockets are also busy in crowded places. I ate in the evening, the hustle and bustle at the bus stand dies out and it looks deserted.
