A Pressure Cooker : Factual Description Essays in English Language For Exams.

A pressure cooker is a large saucepan with a lid that fits tightly, in which you can cook food quickly using steam at a high pressure.

It is made of Aluminium Alloy. Its lid can be sealed on to the vessel by means of a rubber ring. At the centre of the lid there is a hole through which steam can escape.

The food to be cooked is placed in a small vessel inside the cooker and a little water is poured into the outer vessel, that is, the pressure cooker. Water boils in the vessel and steam begins to escape through the vent. Then we stop the steam by placing a weight on the vent. When the temperature rises inside the vessel the food gets cooked. This takes only one-third of the time taken by the ordinary method.

The pressure cooker and its parts must be kept clean. It should be washed and cleaned with hot water and detergent. Synthetic detergents generally work very well in hard water.
