Short Essay / Article / Paragraph on the Topic “Patriotism (My Country / Motherland)” in English Language for Students’ Examination
Patriotism is a noble virtue of a person who loves his motherland very much. The Sanskrit proverb says that your mother and motherland are greater even than heaven. A true patriot is delighted to hear his country highly spoken of and pained to hear obloquy against it. His heart bleeds at the sight of his country’s miseries and misfortunes. Even the Negro living in the deserts of Africa entertains tender sentiments for his native-land. A patriot not only loves his country, but also does something for bettering it, and always be prepared to save it from enemies.
A patriot commands for greater respect than a man having wealth or power. There is no selfishness in his love towards his motherland. He is always ready to sacrifice everything for his country. By their achievements patriots make a nation strong. Patriots like Robert Bruce, Gandhi, Nehru and Subhash Chandra Bose are honoured and respected all over the world. It is not wealth that makes country great. It is his great men and their patriotism that make it great.
A true patriot lives for his country, works for it, strives for it, and when necessary dies for it. But a true patriot also respects other countries because he wants respect for his own. Let us remember Edith Cevell’s noble words – “I must have no hatred or bitterness towards any one”. Every citizen of the country should love his motherland, and keep strong patriotism in his heart as country always gives us everything.
