Necessity is the Mother of Invention – Essays/Paragraphs in English Language for School Students Exams.
Wants impel a man to action. When man feels the need of anything, he begins to think how he can satisfy his needs. He then sets his hand to the task of invention. An illustration or two will make this clear. In primitive ages man lived by hunting. So, he invented bow and the arrow to hunt down flying birds and running beasts.
Clothes were devised as protection against cold, houses for shelter. Plough was invented for cultivating the land. Cooking was invented to please the palate. Ornaments were invented to add to beauty. In modern times, guided missiles have been invented to frustrate the evil designs of the enemy. Man has invented spacecraft to explore the space and other planets. Britain being an island cut off from the rest of Europe, has to depend even for food stuff on other countries. So the people of Britain were compelled to go abroad.
India, on the other hand, was a very rich country and had enough to live upon. So, we lost our ancient spirit of adventure and enterprise, and became a subject and backward nation. In a word, necessity makes us bold, adventurous and hardy and goads us to activity.
