Formation of Positive Ions (Cations): Metals tend to lose electrons to form positively charged ions (cations). This occurs during chemical reactions when metals oxidize, giving up electrons to nonmetals or other species.

Electronegativity: Metals generally have low electronegativity, meaning they have a tendency to lose electrons rather than gain them. This property contributes to their ability to form cations.

Metallic Bonding: Metals are held together by metallic bonds, which are formed by the attraction between positively charged metal ions and delocalized electrons. This bonding gives metals their characteristic properties such as malleability, ductility, and conductivity.
