Durga Puja is one of the most famous and significant festivals for Hindu. It generally occurs in the month of September-October. Durga Puja is particularly and traditionally celebrated in Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, and Odisha. Durga Puja symbolizes the victory of Goddess Durga over demon Mahishasura and the victory of good over evil. This festival also represents shakti; the power of women in the universe. The people of India wait for a year to welcome Goddess Durga and the happiest and fascinating ten days. This festival brings observance of fast and devotion for ten days. It is also believed in some parts of India that Goddess Durga comes to her father’s place for ten days and in the joy of her coming ten days are celebrated as Durga Puja.

Durga Puja is celebrated with great pomp and show in India. Colourful pandals and sparking lighting arrangements make every corner of the city glow. During the festival, the devotees offer prayers to the Goddess and worshipped her in several different forms.

The last four days of the festival namely Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, and Vijaya Dashami are celebrated with much sparkle and pomp. On Saptami, they make eyes of statue and the process is called Pran Pratisthan. On the eighth day, a special ritual is performed in front of the Goddess. The ninth day is the Maha Navami the worship is completed with evening Maha Aarti. On the tenth day, Goddess Durga goes back to her husband and the Durga’s statues are taken for immersion in the river. People get emotional on this day as they feel their daughter is going. Durga Puja is a festival of joy, happiness, and a time of devotion.
