Example is Better Than Precept Very Short Paragraph in English Language for Schools and Board Exams

All great men of the world had left noble examples behind them. And if we wish to be great like them. And if we wish to be great like them, we should follow in their footsteps. Buddha, Jesus Christ, Mahatma Gandhi, Sri Chaitanya, Subhash Chandra Bose, Sri Aurobindo and other great men themselves practised those virtues which they wished their followers to practice. Thus they succeeded in influencing the lives of those who came in contact with them rather than they would have done by mere preaching.

Actions speak louder than words. It is easier to advice than to act. Parents who wish their children to be good and virtuous must themselves set before them good and virtuous examples. As with individuals, so with nations. If there are good and honest men in a nation, the nation is bound to prosper. If a nation has a number of brave, hard-working and honest men, most of its citizens will try to be brave, hard-working and honest.

Always remember that precept makes only a temporary impression, which does no lasting good. Very often the impression created by our advice lasts only as long as the words ring in one’s ears. That is why the great men in every age and every clime who wish to elevate the nation first elevate themselves by self-discipline and self-sacrifice.
