Essay on “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” in English Language for Students Exams

Essays/Paragraphs/Articles on “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” in English Language for Students Exams.

Unity is strength, ‘United we stand, divided we fall’ – so goes the proverb. The story of the old man and his three sons in Aesop’s Fables is a great lesson to us all. The old man on death bed asked his sons. One by one, to break a bundle of sticks tied together. They could not do it. Then he asked his sons to break each stick separately. They did it easily. This taught the sons a great lesson. In the Panchatantra we have a good lesson of unity.

A huntsman caught some birds in a net. An old bird asked all the rest to unite their strength and fly away with the net. The captured birds thus saved themselves. We read in history how Alexander of Macedon conquered the Punjab which was divided into several principalities. History is a testimony to the fact that we were defeated by foreigners only when we were divided among ourselves. But as a united nation, under the leadership of Gandhiji, we ousted the British from our land.

A nation can withstand the external onslaughts and challenges only when her people stand behind her like a firm rock. Unity is, therefore, a powerful weapon with which the forces of destabilization can be defeated, anti-national elements crushed and the evil design of unscrupulous people frustrated.
