Subhash Chandra Bose, popularly known as Netaji was born into a wealthy and privileged Bengali family in Orissa on 23 January 1897. He was given the title of Netaji in Germany by Indian soldiers in early 1942. His father’s name was Janakinath Bose and he was a well-known lawyer of his time. His mother’s name was Prabhavati Devi. After his early schooling, Bose went to join Presidency College, Kolkata where he was expelled due to his nationalist activities. Later, he went to England in September 1919 for higher studies. He was selected for the Indian Civil Service in 1919 but returned to India without completing his training as he believed he could not side with the British.
He was deeply influenced by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and considered him as his spiritual guru. From a very young age, Subhash Chandra Bose had a nationalist temperament. To serve the country, he joined Indian National Congress. Also, in 1939 he became the party president. He was a great Indian nationalist and certainly a revolutionary freedom fighter. On 21st October 1943. He announced the formation of the Azad Hind Government and the Indian National Army. He instigated the feeling of patriotism among Indians. He gave the slogan “Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azadi dunga. He was also sent to prison in Mandalay in 1925 due to his connections with revolutionary movements.
Subhash Chandra Bose is an unforgettable national hero. He had a tremendous love for his country. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose died on 18 August 1945 in a plane crash in Taiwan. Even after his demise, he is still breathing with his vibrant patriotism in the heart of every citizen of India.
