Population explosion is the rapid increase in the number of individuals in an area. The global population has grown from 1 billion in 1800 to 7.8 billion in 2020. It is a major issue for developing countries. India is the second-largest populated country in the world after the Republic of China with a population of 136.64 crores. India occupies 2.4% of the world’s land and 17.7% of the world’s population. The largest contributing countries to population explosion are China and India. It generates many issues in the country that cause many problems for people.
There are many causes of population explosion. One of them is the difference between the birth rate and death rate. According to the 2011 census, the birth rate has declined but the rate of death has also come down because of medical advancement. Illiteracy is another cause of population explosion. The literacy level of women is one of the biggest problems because they know nothing about family planning.
The population explosion affects natural resources and the living standards of people. Generating job opportunities for such a huge population is very difficult and because of this, a large number of people is unemployed. Poverty is also a result of population explosion. The rapidly growing population led to food scarcity and poverty. Infrastructure facilities like housing, transportation, and healthcare become inadequate to provide provision to the population. The government needs to take some corrective measures to tackle this problem. The government should raise awareness about family planning, especially in rural areas.
But by controlling the population we can also control other problems as well like food insecurity, illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment.
