Road accidents have become very common nowadays. On 10 January, I watched a horrific road accident. It was a cold and foggy day. I was going to my school with a bunch of my friends. We were waiting at a signal for the light to turn red, and suddenly we heard a noise. We looked around and saw a man was lying on the road soaked in blood. On seeing that I was so terrified that I could not move a step. People ran towards him and tried to wake him up but he was unconscious. I still remember his white shirt turned red. His phone, wallet, and pen were lying on the road.
I was very shocked. I don’t know why but tears were rolling down my cheeks. People were saying that a car hit his bike and he fell on the ground and a truck ran over him. My friends went close to see him but I didn’t have the guts to do so. People called an ambulance and took him to the hospital. He was just a stranger to me but still, I felt bad for his family. He was looking so young must be 23-24. But who cares people have become heartless. They are always in hurry.
India accounts for 11% of the global death in road accidents, with only 1% of world vehicles. According to a report by the World Bank, the country accounts for about 4.5 lakh road crashes per annum, in which 1.5 lakh people die. These numbers are terrifying. That incident made me realize how precious our lives are. But we take it for granted. We should be careful about our and other’s lives on the road.
