In the MKS (meter-kilogram-second) system, the unit of mass is the kilogram (kg). The kilogram is defined as the base unit of mass in the International System of Units (SI). It is the mass of the International Prototype of the Kilogram (IPK), a platinum-iridium alloy cylinder kept at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) in France.
