Veins have thinner walls compared to arteries due to differences in function and pressure. Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart under high pressure, requiring thicker, elastic walls to withstand and regulate the force of blood flow. In contrast, veins transport deoxygenated blood back to the heart at lower pressure. Thinner walls in veins suffice for this function, aided by one-way valves to prevent backflow. This structural difference reflects the respective roles of arteries and veins in the circulatory system, ensuring efficient nutrient delivery by arteries and effective waste removal by veins.
