Fishes die when taken out of water due to suffocation and dehydration. Fishes rely on water to obtain oxygen dissolved in it through their gills for respiration. When removed from water, their gills collapse, preventing oxygen uptake, leading to suffocation. Additionally, fishes lack a protective skin layer and can rapidly lose moisture through their skin, causing dehydration and ultimately death. Water is vital for maintaining proper respiration, hydration, and overall physiological function in fishes.
