The green plant kept in continuous light will live longer. While both plants are deprived of oxygen, the plant in light can perform photosynthesis, utilizing stored carbohydrates for energy and producing small amounts of oxygen through photolysis of water. This limited oxygen production may sustain cellular respiration to some extent. In contrast, the plant in darkness lacks the ability to photosynthesize, relying solely on stored reserves for cellular respiration. Thus, the plant in continuous light has a better chance of survival due to its ability to generate some oxygen and utilize stored energy reserves.
