Comparison of Alveoli and Nephrons:-

Structure:-

  • Alveoli: Tiny air sacs in lungs with thin epithelial walls and dense capillary network.
  • Nephrons: Functional units in kidneys composed of renal corpuscle (glomerulus and Bowman's capsule) and renal tubule.
Functioning:-
  • Alveoli: Facilitate gas exchange, where oxygen diffuses into blood and carbon dioxide diffuses out.
  • Nephrons: Filter blood to remove waste and excess substances, reabsorb essential nutrients, and regulate water and electrolyte balance.
Both structures maximize surface area for efficient exchange, but alveoli specialize in gas exchange, while nephrons focus on filtration and regulation in kidney function.
