With urbanization indoor games are becoming more popular. In capital and metropolitan cities and in industrial and commercial centres a few schools and colleges have their own playgrounds. It is because these cities and centres have hardly any open space for outdoor games. So more and more institutions are encouraging indoor games.
Like outdoor games indoor games also develop an all-round personality of a player both physically and morally. The indoor games like table tennis, carom or chess, do a lot more than the outdoor games. They improve the skill, farsightedness and the thinking power of a player. They encourage the spirit of competition. They teach cooperation and sportsman spirit. They also teach the lesson of tolerance, and discipline. So all institution must encourage them. They should, in fact, form an integral part of educational curriculum.
But one thing that we must bear in mind is that indoor games are not the substitutes of the outdoor games. They are not their rivals also. They simply meet the needs of our time. Besides, they can be played in any season, in rain or in scorching heat. They can be played at night too. Hence they are becoming more and more popular.
