Short Essay / Article / Paragraph on the topic “ Peacock – The National Bird of India “ in English Language
The Peacock is one of the most beautiful birds of the world. It has got a rather heavy body with a long, narrow neck and long tail to balance this neck. The adult bird is about 2 feet in height. It has a fine crest on its head. But the real beauty of the peacock is in its tail. It has many coloured plumes in the tail. When a peacock spreads these plumes like a fan and stands still, it is a sight for the Gods to see. Unfortunately, its call (sound) is extremely harsh. The peahen is a grey bird and has no such tail. The peacock is a tropical bird.
The Peacock eats vegetables and animal food. They are known to be great enemies of snakes, which they kill and eat. Peacocks generally don’t live in flocks. One cock with three or four hens makes a unit. This bird has a great respect in India. Among Indians, it is considered to be the Vahana or carrier of Kartik, a war-God. Peacock is the national bird of India, and it is now an offence to kill it. It is, therefore, the duty of every citizen of India to protect and preserve the Peacocks.
