The Sahitya Akademi on Dec 21, 2016 announced the names of the Sahitya Akademi Award winners for the year 2016 in 24 different languages. 8 books of poetry, 7 books of short stories, 5 books of novel, 2 books of criticism and 1 book of essays and play each have been declared the winners of the Sahitya Akademi honours which will be conferred on the winners at the function of Sahitya Akademi on February 22, 2016 in New Delhi. Each awardee will receive a casket containing an engraved copper plaque, a shawl and a prize money worth Rs. 1,00,000.
Facts about Sahitya Akademi Award
The Sahitya Akademi Award was established in 1954. It is a literary honour in india, and is conferred anually on writers of the most outstanding books of literacy merit published in any of the major Indian languages recognized by the Sahitya Akademi. Indian film maker Satyajit Ray is designer of the plaque awarded by the Sahitya Akademi.
