Difference Between Plant Cell and Animal Cell : Biology Theory Study

difference between plant cell and animal cell entranciology

Cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life. There are two main types of cells Plant Cells and Animal Cells. Both types of cells are different to from each other. The differences between plant cell and animal cell are as under :

S. No. Plant Cell Animal Cell
1 The plant cell possesses a rigid cell wall generally made up of cellulose. The cell wall is absent in animal cell.
2 Plant cells are usually larger in size. Animal cells are comparatively smaller in size.
3 Mitochondria are comparatively fewer. Mitochondria are generally more.
4 Plastids are found in plant cells. Plastids are usually absent in animal cells.
5 The photosynthetic pigment chlorophyll is present. Chlorophyll is absent.
6 A mature plant cell contains a large central vacuole. An animal cell often possesses many small vacuoles.
7 Cytokinesis (division of cytoplasm) occurs by cell plate method. Cytokinesis occurs by constriction.
8 Glyoxysomes may be present. Glyoxysomes are absent.
9 Cytoskeleton does not contain intermediate fibres. Cytoskeleton contains intermediate fibres.
10 Spindle formed during nuclear division is anastral. Spindle formed during nuclear division is amphiastral.
11 Reserve food is generally starch and fat. Reserve food is usually glycogen and fat.
